Getting the most out of mentorship

Your first meeting will probably consist of redefining your learning objectives with your mentor. Goal setting can be a challenge but it doesn’t have to. In order to set yourself up for success, we are leaving you with a strategic approach for goal setting: The GROW(TH) model.

GROWTH stands for Goal, Current Reality, Options (of Obstacles) and Will (or Way forward), Tactics and Habits.

  1. Establish the Goal

Start by defining a behaviour that requires change and structure it as a goal they want to achieve. Make sure that it is a SMART goal: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound.

  1. Examine the Current Reality

Describe your current reality to your mentor. Take time to explore  specific situations, context, and background.

  1. Explore the Options

Now take the time to determine all the possible options for reaching your objective. Brainstorm for viable options, then decide on the best ones.

  1. Establish the Will

Now that you have a good idea of how to achieve your goal, set up a plan for commitment to specific actions. Plan a follow up meeting to review the progress with your mentor.

  1. Tactics and Habits

Brainstorm with your mentor in order to find tactics and habits you can establish to make the goal more sustainable and attainable.

Hello Mentor hopes you will enjoy the progress and have a meaningful connection with your mentor!
